The VISION of Plum Creek Missions - Missions

The staff, the elders and the missions ministry team want Plum Creek Church to have a heart for missions. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 & 20, “Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”The goal of Plum Creek Christian Church is to evangelize the world. Realistically it will be impossible for Plum Creek to do it all, but it is our mandate from the Master himself to do our part and to fulfill the calling that God has given us. This calling is being fulfilled in many different ways. Included in this brochure is the missions spending plan for the year 2006. This total of $138,655.00 is the largest in the church’s history. Another way in which we are fulfilling our commission from the Lord is to send people to the field. Since 1992, when Plum Creek began sending mission teams to fields all across the world, we have sent hundreds of people - both adults and teenagers. We have been to 8 different countries and we have been a part of planting 5 new churches. Each year trips are planned so that people from Plum Creek can be involved in going to mission fields and sharing their faith.Another aspect of fulfilling the call is prayer. Many people pray for the projects at Plum Creek as well as all the people that are going. Some may never have an opportunity to leave this country, and yet every person can be involved in the mission process by asking God’s power to make a difference. The primary goal of the missions program at Plum Creek Christian Church is to plant new churches. There are many other worthwhile endeavors on the mission field, but at the present time our goal is to plant churches. Plum Creek’s newest works are in the Dominican Republic and in Australia. At the present time we have already begun praying for the Lord to give us a new field. It could be in Guatemala, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa or Asia, but we do know the Lord has a plan and that we are willing to go.We hope and pray that the Lord will touch you with the excitement of the Gospel. We hope that He will stir the fires of evangelism within your spirit and that you will feel the call to win the world to Christ. We pray that you will catch the vision of a lost world that needs to know Jesus as Savior and that you will allow God to make a difference through you.

Plum Creek's Newest Works
The goal of Plum Creek’s missions emphasis is to be involved in planting new churches. To this point, Plum Creek has been a part of planting 20 new churches since 1992 with the first one being San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and the latest one occurring on the outskirts of Yangon, Myanmar. During this coming year the hope is to be involved in a new work in Guatemala through the work of Disciple Makers. Know that your prayers and your financial support are making a difference in the lives of people throughout the world. People are coming to know Jesus Christ as their Savior because there are people at Plum Creek Christian Church who love Jesus and love His people. Please be praying about the ways in which you can be involved and prayerfully consider joining one of the teams as they travel. It’s wonderful to pray and it’s wonderful to give, but it is also wonderful to go. Please be praying about the opportunities that will come your way and that God could even use you. In Matthew 28:19 Jesus said for us to go. If you are able, I think that means you and me!

Benevolence
One of the very exciting ministries that has continued to reach out into our local community each year from Plum Creek has been the benevolence ministry. This is the area in which Christ said we will always have. He also stated this was an area his church is responsible for. It is the desire and focus of his ministry to help meet the needs of those people in our local community who are less fortunate. Since the beginning of this ministry, it has been called ‘our cup of cold water’. We’ve wanted to show the kindness and compassion of Jesus through Plum Creek Church to hurting, needy people and to plant the seeds of the Gospel so people will come to know the bread of life.

Teen Missions
At Plum Creek, not only do the adults go on mission trips, but the teenagers do as well. There is a trip every summer where the Jr. High students and Sr. High students alternate each year. The Jr. High teens travel on the even years (2000, 2002, 2004 etc.) and have been to missions in Arizona, Ohio, Missouri, and South Dakota. The Sr. High teens travel on the odd years (1999, 2001, 200, etc.) and they have been to missions located in Panama, Dominican Republic and Honduras. The teen missions program is under the guidance of Plum Creek’s Missions Ministry Team in coordination with Michael Damron, Plum Creek’s Teen Minister and the Teen Ministry Team. In 2006, the Jr. High teen group will be working with the North Point Christian Church in Spearfish, South Dakota. Please be praying about this new church plant and all that God is going to do in and through our teenagers this summer.

Myanmar Ministry -- Victor Mang
The newest work at Plum Creek is under the leadership of Victor Mang in Myanmar, formerly know as Burma. Victor was a student of Larry’s at Cincinnati Bible Seminary, and is now heading up a church as well as a Bible College in Burma. The college is called Ministers Training College. They have over 40 students and the goal is to send ministers throughout Myanmar. It is illegal to go into the country as a missionary, so all work has to be done with nationals within the country. It is illegal to evangelize and to preach on the streets. All religious work has to take place inside the church buildings.Victor has a wonderful family which includes a wife and three children. He is excited about winning his country for Christ. This new work is taking place within the 10/40 window - one of the greatest areas of need for Christianity in the world. Please be praying for Victory Mang and his family.

Surplus Connections Worldwide
SCW’s vision came out of Plum Creek construction mission trips. We believe in connecting those with surplus to those in need. Along with building materials, we also distribute office, school and medical equipment and supplies. We willingly teach, share and lead other groups outside of Plum Creek in order to expand the foundation’s philosophy. Our goal is to provide those missionary families who have committed their lives to proclaiming the gospel with the tools they need.SCW Mission Statement: SCW is a non-profit foundation created to combine surplus building materials, office/school/medical supplies and equipment together with a proven and supervised building and construction system which utilizes volunteer labor to communities worldwide in need of schools, clinics, orphanages and community buildings.Bob Cox is the head of Surplus Connections Worldwide and is assisted by Cindy Polatka. If you would like to be part of a trip, sponsor someone on a trip, or would like more information, please give them a call at (859) 655-8308.

Simferopol, Ukraine -- Zhenya & Amy Shved
(Pioneer Bible Translators & Team Expansion)On September 10, 1999, Amy and Zhenya Shved, along with their son, Elijah, left the United States for the Ukraine. They live in the city of Simferopol and over the past 5½ years they have been working with the Crimean Tatars. The work for Zhenya began by not only learning the Tatar language, but also a local Turkish language that took Zhenya less than one year to accomplish.During this time, Zhenya has written the Stories About Jesus, a book called The Old Testament Prophets and his translation of Genesis is ready for publication as is his work on Exodus and 1 Samuel. The first draft has already been completed of the Gospel of Mark, the Gospel of Matthew, 2 Samuel and Proverbs. He is doing preparatory work on 1 Kings and Deuteronomy. In the next six months his goal will be to do work in Joshua, 2 Kings, Luke, Acts and the Gospel of John. Eventually their goal is to have the entire Bible for the Tatar people, who are primarily Muslims, and to begin establishing the church there. The Bible was first and then the Church. Please pray for this incredible work and the difference that this wonderful couple is making.

CEF--Christian Evangelizing Fellowship
CEF is a joint venture of churches all across the tri-state with the purpose of establishing new churches. The most recent work of CEF has been the River Hills Christian Church on the northeast side of Cincinnati. This church is presently running almost 400 people. The next work has been planned for Mainville which is a community just outside of King’s Island. Larry Travis, our senior minister, has been on the board of CEF for several years and is excited about the continuing expansion of new churches throughout the tri-state.

Southern Cross Ministries -- Jim and Becky Newman
In 2002, Jim and Becky Newman ended their work in Grenada as they felt the church there was ready to stand on its own. This had been their philosophy all along. When the church was ready, they would step back and allow that church to be led and ministered to by Grenadians. The Newmans have now moved their work to Australia. They are working in the Queensland State, in a city call Toowoomba. Jim is teaching at the new Bible College training preachers and evangelists as well as working with the Toowoomba International Christian Church.Plum Creek is very proud of Jim and Becky and their family. Their new work is going to make a difference throughout the countries of the Pacific Rim. There is a trip being planned to visit this work in June 2007. The trip is being organized with the goal of taking around 20 people. It will be a 2-week trip and the approximate cost will be around $3,000.

Central India Christian Mission
The work of the New Delhi (India) church began in January of 1998. Trained workers have gone into this capital city of India and surveyed many homes throughout. It was found that a large amount of Christians who had recently moved to Delhi were not a part of a regular fellowship of believers. This is due to the scarcity of New Testament churches in this portion of the world. Out of this city of 13 million, less than 5% are considered to be Christian (Protestant or Catholic). Therefore, the Christians that were found were invited to meet together for worship in different locations throughout the city. As a result, the New Delhi Christian Church has been formed. The minister at the church in New Delhi is Mahipal Singh. He works in conjunction with the other churches that have been established throughout the city. The work in New Delhi is being done in cooperation with Ajai Lall who heads up the Central India Mission in Damoh, India.

Cincinnati Christian University (CCU)
Cincinnati Christian University has been providing excellence in Christian education since 1924 and has been at its current location at 2700 Glenway Avenue since 1939. CCU’s mission “is to teach men and women to live by Biblical principles and to equip and empower them with skills, insight and vision to lead the church and impact society for Christ.” Indeed, they are preparing many young men and women for their work in the ministry. Through the years, Plum Creek has had several people who have attended CCU and have graduated. The hope and prayer is to send many others in the years to come. The greatest need of CCU presently are donations for their new building. They have just completed a five million dollar worship complex that also includes new offices for many of the professors who previously did not have offices. The newest event at the University is something you’ve probably already noticed; the name. Since 1924 it has been called Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary but now it is called Cincinnati Christian University. This has not changed the focus or the direction of the school in any way, but only designates what is presently there; several college which include CBC, CBS, the Call Program (which is an adult training program), as well as a new educational training program.

San Pedro Sula, Honduras -- Julio & Victoria Corea
As 2004 came to a close, Plum Creek ended their financial support of the work in San Pedro Sula, Honduras as planned. However, we will still remain in contact with Julio Corea and the church there and hope to keep updated on their needs and requests. They have recently purchased a piece of property adjacent to the existing school property and are planning to build a third school building in the future. Please pray as they step out in faith.

Nepal -- Stephen & Sarina Rai
Disciple Makers has been working in Nepal since 2000. There is a training center in the city of Kathmandu whose purpose is to train nationals for planting and establishing new indigenous churches. To date, 76 men have been trained and sent out to start churches in the remote areas of Nepal and Northern India. Among these churches where the men serve, there are currently 2,500 believers meeting. Plum Creek supports six of these evangelists as they work in one of the most spiritually dark sections of the world. Two of our elders have taught in this training center.Stephen Rai oversees the work in Nepal. In January of 2006, ten men from the United States will be going to Nepal to teach at the Training Center. They will be teaching refresher courses to the men who are out in the field.

Mid-India Christian MissionEven though Plum Creek is primarily involved in planting churches, we have also become involved with a few other projects that indirectly fulfill this purpose. The work at Damoh, India, at the Mid-India Christian College, is one of those works.

LaRomana, Dominican Republic
Making a contact with Rick York, the leading mission in the Dominican Republic, Plum Creek partnered with the Northeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY, to plant a new church in LaRomana, Dominican Republic. Our churches will also be partnering with Christ Emmanuel Christian Fellowship in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is certainly unique to have three diverse congregations come together in unity to do this kind of work. The work in LaRomana continues to grow. The ministers who have been there since the beginning have now left and gone back to their hometowns.Rick York is presently looking for a new couple to take over the senior pastorate work in LaRomana. Several are being interviewed and the plan is to have them in place soon. Plum Creek will support this minister and the work there. Their place of worship has been completely renovated and they are expanding their outreach in the city. They are running over 140 people and establishing leadership. Larry led a trip combining students from CCU and people from Christ Emmanuel and Plum Creek in January 2005. The potential for this work is very exciting as many people are going to be reached for Christ in a country that is not only poor physically, but poor spiritually.

Disciple Makers, Inc. -- Tom & Toni Schneller
Disciple Makers was started in 1989 by Tom and Toni Schneller after they finished serving their first missionary term in Mexico. In 1990, they moved to Honduras and served until 1996 when they felt the church they planted was well established with national leadership. Tom & Toni then moved to the U. S. to establish a mission headquarters where they could begin working in other areas of the world with people who have little or no access to the Gospel. In 1997, Disciple Makers began working among the Eastern Punjabis of Northern India. Today they have 10 full-time evangelists who have started over 70 new churches and fellowships. In 2001, Disciple Makers began church planting in Nepal. In 1999, Mike Neises joined Disciple Makers after retired from Cincinnati Bell. Mike is now the assistant director and coordinator of short-term mission groups.

It is important to share the love of Jesus with our community. This year's outreach event is in two phases.

Phase 1 includes several "on location" events that will take place in our community neighborhoods or parks. Phase 2 is a two-night event that will take place at the church building on July 24-25. We need caring adults to make this happen. Please see the sign-up form on the kiosk to volunteer. We need teachers, snack people, craft people, recreation leaders, and more!

Please plan to attend an INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Saturday, March 29, @ 9 a.m. (PC North).

Ministering to Body, Mind & Spirit - Health & Safety Ministry

"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." (3 John 2)

With the season of spring upon us, it is a great time to increase our physical activity. Walking may well be the ideal exercise. It uses nearly 200 muscles and is a safe, inexpensive and fun activity almost anyone can do--either with friends or alone. Some benefits of walking include:Increase in cardiovascular fitness by increasing strength of heart, lungs, muscles and bones, and decreasing blood pressure and lowering blood cholesterol levelsReduces stress and helps achieve more restful sleepHelps you lose weight and keep it offTones musclesGives you more energy

To begin a walking program you will need comfortable, well-fitted shoes, cushioned socks, comfortable clothing, a water bottle (imagine that!) and sunscreen. A pedometer will be helpful to measure walking distance or steps walked. You must set a schedule and stick to it! Aim to eventually walk 30-60 minutes most days of the week. Start gradually and increase as tolerated until you reach your personal goal. Begin and end each walking session by doing gentle stretches and 3-5 minutes of "warm up" and "cool down" slow walking.

There is much more information available and we will help you with this if you ask. Hope you enjoy walking as much as I do! Last year I began "prayer walking." I carry note cards with prayer requests and have a wonderful time with the Lord as I enjoy His creation and the ability He gives me to walk. Our Health Ministry team is planning to offer some type of "walking challenge" sometime in the future to help more folks become involved.

CPR/AED COURSE -- On Thursday, May 1st, we are offering a CPR/AED COURSE FROM 6:30-8:30 p.m. at PC South (room TBA). The cost is $30. A sign-up sheet is available at a kiosk. Contact Genie Willhite if you have further questions.

Financial Peace -- April - Financial Peace

So what has this got to do with mental health and counselors? You may be surprised how often finances are at the heart of relationship issues or individual stresses, especially nowadays with failing mortgages. Even in premarital counseling, finance is one of the most disagreed on topics between future spouses.

I don't provide financial counseling to my clients, but I have often made recommendations for them to receive help and I thought I'd pass that information on to you.

If you're in need of stabilizing your finances, give Dave Ramsey a try. He has written a book called, The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness. He is a Christian and bases his theories on scripture. Mr Ramsey also has a radio program and a class called, "Financial Peace University." Various churches in the area host this program and the cost is $95 which includes all the materials you need to get your financial life straightened out or just tuned up.

Counseling is available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Call (859) 635-9995, ext. 14, for an appointment. If you'd like to see an article on a particular topic or have a question you'd like me to address here, please call me at the office or email me at bettie@plumcreek.org.

The cost will still be $75/person. This includes all food, transportation and hotel room/water/park. If you were registered and paid for SuperStart, please contact Jared and let him know if you plan to attend.

We will likely have spots for some additional participants (4th-5th grade). If your child would like to attend, please contact Jared. Once our final list of participants is complete, Jared will contact those registered with details (departure time, etc.).

Struggling to Hear God - Struggling to Hear God

MARCH . . .
So many times we Christians say we want to know God's will for our lives, sometimes for things as significant as our life purpose, sometimes just for the next step in a current situation, but we don't/can't hear Him. It seems He's nowhere to be found and we feel like we're walking on a wooded path with absolutely no light. Dr. John Trent, Ph.D., President of The Center for Strong Families, gives us two reasons to help us accept where we are and how to find our way.

First, he says that, "God reveals Himself to those 'seeking' a relationship." In other words, He shows us His secrets when we choose an intimate (real, authentic) relationship with Him. Proverbs 3:32b says "He is intimate with the upright" (NASB). Psalm 25:14 says, "The secret of the Lord is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant" (NASB).

It's no wonder we have trouble seeing His will for our lives when we are afraid of sharing our true selves with Him and we often don't take the time to get to know others or God intimately. God wants us to know Him and He wants us to choose to share ourselves with Him.

Second, Dr. Trent says, "with 'confusion' comes a humility that we're not God--and we don't and can't know it all." When we don't know our way, it is humbling and unsettling. It is intended to draw us to the One who does know which way we are to go.

If you want to know God's will, acknowledge that you don't have all the answers to your circumstances and then begin to be real with yourself and with Him. Let Him know where you are--scared, lonely, angry (even at Him). Ask Him to reveal His Word to you and then read it. And be patient. God is not about instant gratification, but over time He will show you the way.

Congratulations to Tony Trapp as he flipped the switch to light the new lights on Crawford Memorial Field last summer. Tony spent many hours working on the ball field and getting the lights up and going. The field looks great, Tony, and we all appreciate your countless hours of hard work and the great facility we have for outings and softball games!
